Crystal Cain’s story starts on Vancouver Island, where she grew up in Victoria, spent her childhood outdoors, became vegetarian at nine, and eventually found her way into food almost by accident.
After years of serving, travelling, studying psychology, environmental studies, nutrition, and culinary arts, Crystal’s path led her from Victoria to Vancouver, Fort McMurray, India, Southeast Asia, and eventually Kelowna.
In this conversation, Crystal shares how a love of food grew out of her values, curiosity, and travels; how buying a small food truck in Fort McMurray changed the direction of her life; and how she now creates vegan and vegetarian pub food that is not just “good for vegan food,” but simply good food.
This episode is about following the unexpected turns, building something from scratch, feeding people well, and opening minds one meal at a time.
